MAHLE Behr is a company of the MAHLE Group based in Stuttgart and is one of the world's largest manufacturers of cooling modules, heat exchangers and exhaust gas coolers for the automotive industry.

As part of the project, the existing logistics concept was to be reviewed and optimized. The objectives were to optimize warehouse and transport relationships, reduce logistics costs, develop a performance standard for staffing and establish further improvement measures. Particular attention was paid to the optimization of material flows and the analysis of employee requirements for logistics processes

The results

All project phases were implemented according to plan and on schedule. The new warehouse structure at the Mühlacker plant ensures optimized material flows and an increased storage density from 0.92 SP/m² to 1.34 SP/m². As certain rack aisles are now used exclusively for direct removal items, the number of forklift trucks has been reduced. The new shelf layout also means that the storage space is used more efficiently, while at the same time reducing pallet movements. The provision of small load carriers in the flow rack also minimizes the handling effort in the small parts warehouse. In addition, occupational safety has been increased through various measures.

In a nutshell: It works! What we wanted to achieve with the redesign of the incoming goods department, we have achieved – and that during ongoing operations. More stable processes with lower personnel deployment and satisfied employees.
