Fit for series production? LOGSOL audits suppliers

In times of increasing complexity in the supply chain, in terms of the number of suppliers and their geographical location, the automotive industry is constantly facing new challenges. At the same time, high-quality products are expected in large quantities and with short delivery times. In order to do justice to all these factors and prevent potential problems, our customers are increasingly dependent on the performance of their suppliers.

LOGSOL has developed and implemented a concept for supplier auditing with a focus on the logistics areas together with a customer from the automotive industry as part of a project this year, in order to support them in this regard, particularly during the start-up of new projects.

Increasing efficiency through supplier audits

During development, the focus was on the greatest possible efficiency when conducting a supplier audit and tracking the results. To build up the necessary internal skills, LOGSOL GmbH employees were professionally trained by TÜV Rheinland on the subject of supplier auditing at the beginning of 2019 and then prepared for the specific customer requirements.

The aim of the supplier audits, which have now been carried out for almost a year, is to identify problems in the supply chain at an early stage, right from the start of the project, together with the supplier and to remedy them together in order to prevent major problems in everyday series production. From England to Tunisia, from Spain to Turkey and many other places, our colleagues are always on hand with a list of over 200 logistics-related questions, as well as a sympathetic ear and attentive eyes.

Starting with the handling of delivery call-offs and the planning of production capacities and physical logistics processes in the plant through to strategies for dealing with emergencies, over seven different subject areas are scrutinized in detail. This ensures that our customers are supplied by their suppliers on time and without any problems.

The findings are evaluated following the supplier audit and are incorporated into the overall result and a final report. In addition to a list of critical deviations, this is shared with both our customer and the audited company. Solutions and a suitable timeline are defined in collaboration with the supplier in order to promptly rectify the deviations found. In addition to conducting the supplier audit, LOGSOL is involved in the follow-up of open issues and, if necessary, makes a further visit to the supplier to check corrective measures. As a result, LOGSOL was able to avert problems promptly last year and will continue to do so in the future before they lead to serious risks in the customer’s series production process.
